Baby Later, an affiliate of Houston Infertility Clinic,
provides cryopreservation for sperm and egg cells, both of which may be
used with in vitro fertilization (IVF) to create a new human life -- a
baby -- later.
Up to now, the most
common use of cell cryopreservation techniques has been by patients who
are about to undergo life-saving cancer treatment. Both chemotherapy
and radiation treatments can cause lifelong infertility due to the
cellular damage caused by such therapies.
Chemotherapy for conditions besides cancer - such as lupus, for example - can also result in infertility.
Baby
Later provides a way for these men and women to rescue their fertility
by freezing their sperm and eggs before cancer treatment begins.
